Ulassai, where climbing is good and time goes slow. A beautiful ancient village, surrounded by even more ancient rocks, where you go knee deep into old traditions and exceptional limestone. Climbing in Ulassai started around the year 2000 with the motivated Gianluca Piras, Maurizio Oviglia, Simone Parti, Fabrizio Dessi and Gianpaolo Mocci.

In 2011 arrives Nannai Climbing Family. With the ever motivated bolters like Klaas Willems and Ruben Beckers (author) amongst their midst, new sectors are popping up like mushrooms. Besides putting a lot of their own silver on the rock, the biggest part of bolting get's funded by selling this guidebook.

A few years later Marco Manieri from Taccu Maccu together with locals Mario Orru and Alessandro Usai joined their efforts creating a true bolting community. Bolting is a sport on its own. Finding the right balance between challenge and safety is crucial. It's hard work, sometimes dangerous but very rewarding in the mean time. This were sport climbing starts and all we ask in return is a sign of appreciation.

What will the future bring for climbing in Ulassai? Whatever is, the village is in the center of it all. Climbing might give them opportunities, but Ulassai gives much more in exchange. Lifestyle, amazing local products, nature and yes, even the odd lesson in life. Come with an open mind and let Ulassai inspire you.
