The 1st edition of this guidebook was called "Moderne Zeiten." In its 2nd edition, this neo-classic is now titled "Im Moderner Fels," making its purpose unmistakably clear in the title: the sequel to "Im Extremen Fels."

The 100 selected routes in this book, and the stories surrounding them, document the evolution of alpine climbing over the last 50 years. 

From 1977, when Helmut Kiene and Reinhard Karl, using stoppers and hexcentrics in the "Pumprissen" route, shattered the rigid six-grade difficulty scale and established the 7th grade, to the bolted plaisir routes of today. We visit the hotspots of climbing and meet the protagonists who created them.

Thus, "Im Moderner Fels" is the ultimate to-do list for every serious alpine climber. It is hardly surprising that David Bruder (with 116 routes in second place in the "In extreme rock" ranking) currently leads the table with 80 routes.
